Looking back

This morning when I got up I realized something very strange.  Today, in history, namely 1987, I started basic training for the United States Army.  23 years ago today was the first time I heard the loudest man in the world yell the words, "GET YOUR GOAT SMELLING ASSES OFF MY BUS!".  I quickly learned that when those words rang out, it was time to move with a purpose.  Good Lord he seemed like a pretty big guy too.

Little did I know, that some years down the road that would be me.

Now, 23 years later, I have done so many things and seen so many places.  Germany, Japan, Iraq, Greece and about 50 other countries that I never though I, a kid from a small town in the mid-west, would ever see.  I've eaten foods that I never thought I would eat and shopped the cobble stone streets of the old world.  I wish I had all the pictures I have accrued in the past with me to post on this momentous occasion.  However, many of them are in boxes and packed away.

After 41 years of life and 20 years of travel to near and far lands I have realized one thing.  Nothing is better than standing on American soil.  To me, the only thing better would be standing on a beach, feeling the cool North Atlantic brushing up against my toes.
